The Feathered Serpent, God of Life and Wisdom
Quetzalcoatl is perhaps the most complex and universal deity in the Mesoamerican pantheon, worshiped by multiple cultures (Mexica, Toltec, Maya, among others). His name in Nahuatl means “Feathered Serpent” and represents the union of Earth (serpent) and Sky (feathers). He was the god of Life, Light, Wisdom, Wind (Ehecatl), and the patron of priests and rulers.
Creation, Attributes, and Manifestations
Creator of Humanity: His most important role is as creator god. It was Quetzalcoatl who traveled to Mictlan (the underworld) to recover the bones of past generations and, together with the goddess Cihuacoatl, ground them and poured his own blood over them to create humanity of the current era (the Fifth Sun).
Lord of the Wind: One of his aspects is Ehecatl-Quetzalcoatl, the god of Wind, who clears the skies so Tlaloc can bring rain and sets the Sun in motion. He is depicted with a beak-shaped mask over his mouth.
Twin Star: He is linked to the planet Venus, known as the god who descends to the underworld and returns, associated with both the Morning Star and the Evening Star.
Duality: He represents the essential duality of existence: the earthly and the celestial, good and evil. He is frequently seen as the twin and antithesis of Tezcatlipoca (Lord of the Smoking Mirror).
Cultural and Civilizing Role
Patron of Civilization: He bestowed Maize upon humankind, a fundamental food source, by stealing it from the gods.
Inventor of the Arts: The creation of the calendar, the counting of time, writing, metallurgy, and the arts are attributed to him. He was the patron of priestly classes and wise men.
The Priest-King: In Toltec mythology, Quetzalcoatl took on a historical-like form as the wise priest-king Ce Acatl Topiltzin Quetzalcoatl, founder of the city of Tula.

La Serpiente Emplumada, Dios de la Vida y la Sabiduría
Quetzalcóatl es quizás la deidad más compleja y universal del panteón mesoamericano, venerada por múltiples culturas (mexica, tolteca, maya, entre otras). Su nombre en náhuatl significa “Serpiente Emplumada” y representa la unión de la Tierra (serpiente) y el Cielo (plumas). Fue el dios de la Vida, la Luz, la Sabiduría, el Viento (Ehécatl) y el patrón de los sacerdotes y gobernantes.
Creación, Atributos y Desdoblamientos
Creador de la Humanidad: Su rol más importante es como dios creador. Fue Quetzalcóatl quien viajó al Mictlán (inframundo) para recuperar los huesos de las generaciones pasadas y, junto con la diosa Cihuacóatl, los molió y vertió su propia sangre sobre ellos para crear a la humanidad de la era actual (el Quinto Sol).
Señor del Viento: Una de sus advocaciones es Ehécatl-Quetzalcóatl, el dios del Viento, que despeja los cielos para que Tláloc pueda traer la lluvia y mueve el Sol. Se le representa con una máscara bucal en forma de pico.
Estrella Gemela: Se le vincula al planeta Venus, conocido como el dios que desciende al inframundo y regresa, asociándolo tanto a la Estrella Matutina como a la Estrella Vespertina.
Dualidad: Representa la dualidad esencial de la existencia: lo terrenal y lo celestial, el bien y el mal. Frecuentemente se le ve como el gemelo y antítesis de Tezcatlipoca (Señor del Espejo Humeante).
Rol Cultural y Civilizatorio
Patrón de la Civilización: Es el dios que otorgó a los hombres el Maíz, alimento fundamental, robándolo de los dioses.
Inventor de las Artes: Se le atribuye la invención del calendario, el cómputo del tiempo, la escritura, la metalurgia y las artes. Era el patrón de las clases sacerdotales y los sabios.
El Sacerdote-Rey: En la mitología tolteca, Quetzalcóatl se desdobló en la figura de un gobernante histórico, el sabio rey sacerdote Ce Ácatl Topiltzin Quetzalcóatl, que fundó la ciudad de Tula.
